ATA in Schools
Adopt the Arts Foundation is currently adopting schools in the LAUSD public elementary sector. When Adopt the Arts "adopts a school", we choose a school that has completely lost all funding for their music programs. We work with the district, the principals, the teachers, and the students to integrate our program. We renovate an existing room on campus and supply all new modern instruments. We then provide a music instructor to teach our fully-developed curriculum for all students at the school, including providing the instructor's salary.
Adopt the Arts has spent several years developing an in-house music curriculum with the guidance of several multi-disciplined musicians, educators, and public education directors. Our program focuses on world music, while re-emphasizing core learning principles including history, arithmetic, languages, science, and social skills.
In our short existence as a non-profit, we have donated over 1,000 instruments – providing modern band curriculums and vocal and instrumental classes – to 30 LAUSD elementary schools. There are many ways to help out, if you are interested in getting involved, we would love to hear from you.
A few of the schools we've supported include:
Hillcrest Drive Elementary
Westminster Elementary School
